Navagraha (“nine planets”) and Navaratna (“nine gems”) are inseparably linked concepts in Vedic astrology: every celestial body has its own conductor stone.
The Garuda Purana and Varahamihira’s Brihat Samhita preserve the knowledge of how stones become conductors of planetary forces: “Pure, flawless gemstones carry an auspicious power, capable of protecting against demons, serpents, poisons, disease, and other dangers.”
