Why Vedic Astrology?
Did you know that your “true” zodiac sign might be different from the one you’re used to? “Jyotish” translates from Sanskrit as “the science of light” — and I always emphasize to my students that this name reflects the very essence of the method. At its foundation is the “Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra” — one of the oldest astrological treatises, attributed to the sage Parashara. That’s where the core principle behind the entire system comes from: the position of the planets at the moment of birth is meaningfully connected to a person’s character and the events of their life.
The real sky, instead of a fixed calendar date. This is the key difference in Vedic astrology, and it’s the very first thing I explain in class. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac — a system anchored to the date of the spring equinox, fixed roughly two thousand years ago and unchanged ever since. The Vedic system uses the sidereal zodiac, which tracks the actual, current position of the stars in the sky. Because Earth’s axis slowly shifts (a phenomenon called precession), a discrepancy of almost a full sign has built up between the two systems over the centuries — this correction is called the “ayanamsa.” Put simply: when I build your natal chart, I’m working with where the planets actually are right now, according to modern astronomy.
Karma and dharma, instead of fatalism. Jyotish is rooted in the concepts of karma and dharma — a system aimed at understanding your own path and consciously working with it. In this tradition, the planets show you the map of the terrain; the route across it is yours to choose.
I teach precisely this system because I see in it a precision that popular astrology lacks, and a depth that opens up to anyone willing to work through the original sources instead of simplified retellings.
Why Study Jyotish?
People today often feel lost in a chaos of choices. I see Jyotish as an ancient way to find clarity — to understand your own nature through the language of the planets. Every planet in your birth chart is a living archetype, influencing specific aspects of the psyche. Modern psychology is only just beginning to understand what Vedic sages knew for thousands of years: our consciousness is structured by cosmic principles.

What Is Vedic Astrology?
Jyotish is one of the six Vedangas — the auxiliary sciences traditionally studied alongside the Vedas themselves. That alone says something about the status this system holds in Vedic culture: a full-fledged field of knowledge, standing alongside phonetics, grammar, and the study of ritual.
At its core are three building blocks, which I use to construct every chart together with you. Graha — the nine planets, including the shadow points Rahu and Ketu, each one an archetype for a specific quality of the psyche. Rashi — the twelve zodiac signs, which set the energetic backdrop and style of thinking. Bhava — the twelve houses of the horoscope, each one governing a specific area of life: career, relationships, health, spiritual path. A natal chart is a photograph of the sky at the moment of your first breath, where these three elements combine into a unique configuration, one that’s almost impossible to replicate down to the minute.
There’s also a fourth layer, one that makes Jyotish a genuinely practical tool — the dasha system, or the system of planetary periods. It shows which planet is “in charge” of a given stretch of your life, and why similar events sometimes cluster together in certain years, only to give way to an entirely different dynamic afterward. It’s the dasha that turns a static snapshot of birth into a living map of unfolding time.

It’s a craft that takes practice, but it delivers a result worth the time it takes: the ability to read, on your own, the language your own destiny is written in.
